The Art World is Flat

The term “art world” is something of a misnomer. Perhaps art village or, better yet, art fiefdom would be more apt. Like all fiefdoms there are fat men, with gold chains dangling on their vests, overseeing their workers producing piece work into the wee hours of the night. However, like the villages in Singer’s stories there are idiots, good souls, and even magic. All I know is that the art world/village/fiefdom is smaller than it looks, more insular, and you remain a stranger even after you’ve lived there for twenty years or more. Regardless of the aforementioned, this is the place many of us call home. Home being defined as; where you have a life, a connection, and find shelter in a storm.
